The wait is over already as the emergency use authorisation or Accelerated Approval has been granted by the National Regulator for two vaccines (Covishield and Covaxin) which have established safety and immunogenicity. But as the dates are now announced it is really a dream come true for our whole nation as we continue to be highest rated in positive infection after the United States. The much-awaited Covid-19 vaccination drive will kick start on January 16.

The dates were decided at a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Modi to review the status of infection in the country and preparedness of states and UTs for the vaccination drive. The first to get vaccination will be healthcare workers as announced before as well and the frontline workers who are about 3 crores as estimated. After that person above 50 years of age and then people with comorbidities numbering around 27 crores.

Technology will be used for an orderly and smooth implementation of the rollout. The Prime Minister was also informed about the Co-Win Vaccine delivery management system. This unique digital platform will give real-time information of vaccine stocks, their storage temperature and individualized tracking of the Covid-19 vaccine. More than 79 lakh beneficiaries have already registered on the platform. This platform will help the program managers across all levels for generating a digital certificate upon successful completion of the vaccine schedule.
