With more than 530,000 infections and about 16,000 deaths, the world’s fourth most populous country, Indonesia, has the highest number of coronavirus cases and casualties in Southeast Asia. Some health experts say that limited testing and contact tracing and a high positivity rate shows the actual rates may be far higher than the rest of the South east Asian countries. Indonesia unlike other countries has not yet had any national lockdown as such but has localised social restrictions in place in many fields of life amid the pandemic.

While all that being imposed a new business had started during the pandemic but just two month ago, for people who have got a thirst for entertainment in times like these. And it’s being named as “Cinema Under the Stars’ ‘ which is an outdoor camp-style movie space opened for the public in the province of West Java which itself is the most populous within indonesia. The business aims at keeping people both entertained and socially distanced.

Now it literally is a movie under the stars where movies are watched outdoors with the view of Bandung. It is situated on a hilltop overlooking the indonesian city of bandung where neat lines of “teepee-style” tents are set up each evening on a lawn in front of a large movie screen. The people coming there are supplied with pillows, blankets and snacks. Each tent is also equipped with hand sanitiser and disinfectant in line with the health protocols. moviegoers sit at the entrance of their tents with small tables in front of them with food and drinks, lit up by a candle light. Each tent can be occupied by only three people at a time and there are 28 such tents in the lawn which are kept spaced from each other about 5 to 6.6 ft apart. The cost for each tent is 215,000 IDR (Indonesian Rupiah) which would be $15.25 (Rs.1,130 INR) per movie.

The tents may not provide much protection additionally from the virus , but the movie-goers seem content with the whole setup. People do not seem to be so concerned in this entertainment. Juliatun Hasanah a 21 yr old said,” I don’t have to worry about the pandemic here because they carry out proper health protocols.”
