The United Arab Emirates has banned the issuance of new visas to Pakistan and 11 other countries until further notice. Pakistan responded to this decision amde by the UAE saying that they “believe this is supposed to be related to the second wave of Covid-19.”
The country’s Foreigh Office spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said , “we have learned that the UAE has temporarily suspended the issuing of new visas until further notice for 12 countries including Pakistan.”
Other countries for whom the visit visas were suspended by the UAE are Turkey, Iran ,Afghanistan ,Kenya, Syria, Somalia, Libya ,Iraq and Yemen.This certainly comes amid the rising number of Covid-19 cases in these countries. For almost one week, Pakistan has reported over 2,000 new coronavirus cases.
Even in June 2020, when cases in Pakistan were high, the UAE had announced a temporary suspension of passenger services. Pakistan has recorded 363,380 cases of infections and 7,230 deaths so far. The active Covid-19 cases in the country are 30,362 as per the reports.
